Morgan + Billy’s Backyard Boho Wedding in Catoctin, Maryland

Morgan + Billy’s love for each other truly shines through in every moment. I am HONORED that I got to capture something so special in their parents backyard. Who really needs a venue when you have something this gorgeous right there?!

Morgan reached out to me on Facebook asking me if I was interested in doing weddings. At the time, I have only ever shot one other wedding and I was working towards being able to call myself a professional wedding photographer. With that being said, Morgan put her full trust in me on their special day, and I am so glad she did. Their wedding was the boho wedding of my DREAMS. The florals, the location, the dress, the setting, EVERYTHING. I also love the fact that after every wedding I do, I feel like my clients are my family. I LOVE ALL OF YOU SO MUCH MY HEART CAN’T TAKE IT.

There’s one specific memory that always comes to mind when I think of their day, and that’s when family portraits were being done. Morgan was standing with her family for a photo, and Billy backed away. As soon as he did, Morgan was like, “get over here,” and Billy said, “I didn’t know if I was included.”

Morgan then says, “of course you are, we’re an US now.” *que the tears*

What did Morgan have to say to me after she received her photos, you might ask?

“Honestly like I had a whole Pinterest board for my wedding and what I wanted it to look like and it’s just mind blowing that I have all of these photographs from my wedding day that look like they belong in a damn magazine. Like these photos look like Pinterest perfect wedding photos that other people would use as inspiration. Pretty much I’m obsessed. And I feel like I need to make a blog about how to put together a boho wedding on a budget? Idk man lol.

They all look so whimsical and magical. Like I freaking love them all. Even if my face looks crazy in a few lol. I swear I am one of the most expressive people with my damn face. But yeah they are more than I could have imagined they’d be. They look like a dream. So thank you thank you thank you.

Idk if you’re just interested in wedding or wedding and lifestyle but like... maternity photos for baby number 2? Imma need em. In home newborn session? Need it lol. So pretty much you’re stuck with us if that’s okay.”

Stuck with you?! COUNT ME IN.

Here are some things that I learned from this wedding, for brides and grooms on a budget!

  1. You do not need expensive decorations. You can find super cool and cheap glassware and decorations at goodwill or thrift stores!

  2. Flowers. If you don’t need a ton of them, you can order pre-dried bouquets on Etsy! Not only are you supporting a small business by doing so, but they are gorgeous and easily saved!

  3. It’s your day, invite who you want to (and only who you want to).

  4. Food does NOT have to be fancy! Mission BBQ was perfect for the vibe and the guests! They did it like a buffet style, which was perfect. Also- need a cheap dessert idea? A hot chocolate bar and s’more fixings and a fire. YOU’RE ALL SET!

  5. Need music? Why not have your family or friends who know how to play the guitar do it? This was so special, because Billy’s brother played the music when Morgan walked down the isle.

  6. EXITS CAN BE FUN! Each guest had a cup full of dried flower petals which they threw onto the newlyweds as they exited the ceremony. This actually ended up being one of my favorite parts of the day, and it leads to a bomb photo op.

“What day is it?”

“It’s October 3rd”

Get it? Because they’re wedding way in October 3rd…

Weddings like these are what makes me love being a Maryland Wedding Photographer more than anything else!
